• 26-year-old shot, killed in Athens; police investigating (fox5atlanta.com) — Athens-Clarke County police are investigating after 26-year-old Cole Anargyros was found in the roadway near West Broad and Pulaski streets and later died at a local hospital. Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area around 2:23 a.m. on Dec. 18 or has information about what happened to contact Investigator Christina Bradshaw as they work to determine how the incident unfolded.
   

• ACC local law enforcement responds to questions about ICE (wuga.org) — Athens-Clarke County’s sheriff and police leaders recently told the Public Safety Civilian Oversight Board that ICE doesn’t always notify them before operating in Athens, and that local officers have limited insight into federal tactics. They also explained that any intervention in potential excessive-force situations by ICE would depend on individual officers’ on-the-spot judgment and safety concerns.
   

• Cancer-surviving Santa returns to treatment center to share Christmas cheer and hope (walb.com) — An Athens cancer center on Old Jefferson Road welcomed back a familiar Santa who once underwent pancreatic cancer treatment there and is now in remission. He now returns to visit patients, offering encouragement, holiday cheer, and a living reminder that cancer treatment in Athens can lead to hopeful outcomes.
