Georgia Law's Journal of Intellectual Property Law will host its first Music and Technology Conference on March 27, beginning at 3 p.m
The University of Georgia School of Law’s student-edited Journal of Intellectual Property Law will host its first Music and Technology Conference on March 27, beginning at 3 p.m. at the historic Morton Theatre in downtown Athens. The event is open to the public. The event will bring together some of the industry’s top entertainment attorneys as well as policy advocates and technologists from across the country.
This conference will consist of two panel discussions relating to fair use and artist business models in the streaming era. Confirmed panelists include: Lisa Moore (The Moore Firm and former Director of Georgia Lawyers for the Arts), Austin Padgett (Troutman Sanders), Andrew Pequignot (Kilpatrick Townsend), Lucy Jewel (University of Tennessee College of Law), Shawn Nolan (Jonathan E. Leonard, P.C.), John Seay (The Seay Firm LLC), Casey Rae (CEO of the Future of Music Coalition), Bertis Downs (lawyer and Manager for R.E.M.) and David Shipley (Georgia Law copyright professor).
Casey Rae, the chief executive officer of the Future of Music Coalition, will present a keynote address at 5 p.m. Rae is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University and a member of the board of directors for the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture. A musician, recording engineer, educator and author, he is a regular commentator on the impact of technology on artists. Additionally, he has testified before Congress on artist issues.
