Should Gingrich Drop Out?

Losing to Romney in all five Tuesday primaries, Gingrich said he would "reassess" his campaign but pledged to attend 23 scheduled events in North Carolina next week.

 

Is Newt Gingrich deluding himself? Or is he finally considering dropping out of the race for the GOP nomination?

On Tuesday, Gingrich lost all five primaries to former Massachussetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Scoring wins in Connecticut, Delaware, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and New York, Romney hasn't officially won the race, according to a Los Angeles Times report, but Gingrich and former Rep. Ron Paul, although still running, have been mathematically eliminated from contention.

Gingrich has only won two primaries so far, in Georgia and South Carolina. Tuesday night, he reiterated his pledge to carry the fight all the way to the Republican convention in Tampa, but he also admitted he would "reassess" his presidential bid in the coming days.

Gingrich's floundering campaign is currently $4.3 million in debt, according to the LA Tmes. Still, he pledged to attend all 23 campaign events scheduled in North Carolina next week.

While Romney leaves many Republicans cold -- receiving only grudging and half-hearted endorsement from several GOP heavy-hitters -- it's clear he's going to be the nominee.
