Two Watkinsville Men Sentenced for Child Molestation

Judge Lawton Stephens sentenced the two men.

Convicted in September of four counts of child molestation and 15 counts of exploitation of a child, John David Cooper 45, was sentenced on Friday for those crimes. According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, Judge Lawton Stephens gave Cooper a sentence of 40 years with 30 years to serve in prison.

Cooper worked as an information technology manager in the Atlanta office of the Department of Labor. He was fired in March after his February arrest. The story says Cooper was convicted of molesting a child over a period of time that began when she was just 12 years old.

According to the story, after Cooper’s arrest, Oconee County Sheriff’s investigators seized computer records that show images of child pornography.

Also sentenced this week, of 30 years with 20 years to serve, was 39-year-old Kenneth Troy Cobb, the story says. Cobb was convicted in a jury trial this week of four counts of child molestation and two counts of sexual battery on two children.

Cobb worked as an apartment maintenance man in Athens, the story says. He was arrested in January on the charges after Watkinsville police interviewed the two victims.
