Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:
- Two teenage boys were shot during an Atlanta party on Saturday night after police say a fight broke out. Police were dispatched to the house party at Middlesex Dr. NE around 11:30 p.m. The victims were transported to the hospital and their conditions are unknown as of Sunday evening. (WSB Atlanta)
- A city council discussion to consider the future of a detention center in Atlanta will occur today. The large detention center only houses around 50 inmates and is considering leasing 700 beds out to help with jail overcrowding. Around 300 medical professionals have signed a letter urging the council not to go through with leasing the space in the detention center. (CBS 46 News)
- Students in Atlanta Public Schools will now be able to access physical and emotional telehealth services. The Board of Education and the district agreed to a year-to-year agreement for $500,000 with Hazel Health which breaks down to roughly $15 per student. (WSB Atlanta)
- A Georgia State University campus officer has been charged with rape and kidnapping. A Lawrenceville woman filed a police report on Aug. 5 and said the officer used his position of power to carry out the assault. The campus officer was identified as Terry Payne, 59, of Loganville. (WTVC)
- Atlanta police responded to a call of shots fired at the Odyssey Restaurant and Lounge on W. Marietta Street around 3:20 a.m. on Saturday. Police were told shots were fired because a car was blocking in another which resulted in two victims shot. One of the victims was pronounced dead on scene and was identified as 30-year-old Joseph London Smith. (News Channel Atlanta)
