$2M Winning Powerball Ticket Sold In GA; Jackpot Inflates To $144M

The new Powerball jackpot has an estimated cash value of $66.2 million.

GEORGIA — A single $2 Powerball ticket in Georgia was worth $2 million in Saturday's drawing.

The lucky ticket matched all five white balls and the Power Play of 5x for the victory, according to the Georgia Lottery results. The winning numbers were 21, 22, 25, 32 and 38. The unmatched red ball was 16.

It is unknown if the prize had been claimed as of Monday morning.

With no one hitting the $134 million jackpot, the Powerball's largest prize has grown to $144 million. The new jackpot has an estimated cash value of $66.2 million.

This comes nearly a month after two people split an estimated $478.2 million Powerball jackpot won on Oct. 23 in Buford.

The winners chose to split the prize, receiving $230,566,360 each before taxes. Georgia law allows lottery winners to remain anonymous.

The winning Quik Pik ticket was bought at Quick Mark at Buford Dam Road, according to Powerball officials. Georgia retailers who sell the winning jackpot ticket can obtain the $50,000 retailer incentive bonus payment, lottery officials said.

The multimillion prize was the largest jackpot won in the game's history in Georgia and is the highest single payout in Georgia's lottery history, breezing by the previous record set by a Mega Millions winner in Stone Mountain who claimed a cash option of more than $173 million of a $648 million jackpot, according to Powerball.

“This is an incredible moment in Georgia Lottery history, and we are thrilled to congratulate Georgia’s newest and largest Powerball winners,” Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin said in a news release. “This is a life-changing win, and we are so excited to celebrate with our lucky winners.”

Here's where Powerball jackpots have been won this year:

  • Jan. 1 - $842.4 million – Michigan
  • April 6 - $1.326 billion – Oregon
  • May 6- $214.9 million – Florida
  • June 10 - $226.6 million – New Jersey
  • July 3 - $139.3 million – Ohio
  • Aug. 12 - $213.8 million – Pennsylvania
  • Aug. 19 - $44.3 million – California
  • Oct. 23 - $478.2 million – Georgia

Online winning tickets expire 180 days from the drawing date, while instant ticket winners have 90 days from the expiration date to claim prizes. Instructions on how to receive prizes are here.

Georgia takes 5.75 percent in state taxes and 24 percent in federal taxes for winnings more than $5,000.

"The (Georgia Lottery Corporation) reports to the IRS and Georgia Department of Revenue the names of winners of prizes above $600. ... Additionally, the GLC is required to check for and deduct any outstanding child support payments for prizes of $2,500 and above and student loans and state taxes for prizes of $5,000 and above, net of wager or ticket cost," lottery officials said on the Georgia Lottery website.

Playing the Powerball costs $2, and drawings are held at 11 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets are sold until 10 p.m. on draw nights. Power Plays cost an additional $1.

Players can choose five white ball numbers from 1-69 and a red Powerball number from 1-26. The Quik Pik option is available for players who want the computer to choose.

The odds of winning a jackpot are 1 in 1 in 292,201,338, while the odds of overall winning are 1 in 24.87.

The next Powerball drawing is at 11 p.m. Monday.
