9-Year-Old Boy Shot During New Year's Celebration

The boy may have been struck by celebratory gunfire.

ATLANTA, GA -- A 8-year-old boy was shot during a New Year's celebration in northwest Atlanta, and police said he may have been struck by celebratory gunfire. The incident happened in the 100 block of Griffin Street, according to police, around midnight, while he and his family were setting off fireworks.

The boy was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston in stable condition. He later underwent surgery.
