  1. Atlanta police officer Donald Vickers, 42, has been indicted for an incident in April 2019. Vickers has been charged with aggravated battery and violation of oath by a public officer after body camera footage showed the officer tackling a man and breaking his ankle during an arrest. The officer had also been charged with reckless conduct in 2020. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. Bank of America has invested more than $1.2 million in grants to Atlanta nonprofits, the company announced Wednesday. The grant money has gone to 53 nonprofits to help create more economic opportunities for people in the area. Bank of America Atlanta President Al McRae said, “Investing in partnerships with nonprofit organizations addressing issues like workforce development, food insecurity, and affordable housing is part of our approach to driving economic opportunity and social progress in Atlanta.” (Metro Atlanta CEO)
  3. A 34-year-old man was found fatally shot in the middle of the street early Wednesday morning. Atlanta police responded to the area of the 120 block of Anchor Terrace SW where they reportedly found the man with a gunshot wound to the chest. The investigation is currently ongoing. (WSB Atlanta)
  4. As Georgia has surpassed 1,000 monkeypox cases, a Grady Health System doctor is warning universities and its students to take precautions. Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Jonathan Colasanti said universities should "have processes where those students can easily identify themselves if they’re concerned they may be at risk." In addition, he warned that schools should be prepared with adequate testing and how it'll accommodate students who may need prolonged isolation. (WSB Atlanta)
  5. Clayton County officials are pleading for people to adopt or rescue one of the dogs they have on their urgent list – due to overcrowding at animal shelters – by today at 1:00 p.m. Fulton and DeKalb Counties are experiencing the same overcrowding at local animal shelters with 300 dogs at the LifeLine Animal Project in Fulton County, and 500 at the DeKalb facility.
