Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:

  1. Atlanta is getting a $30 million federal grant for a bike lane and pedestrian path infrastructure upgrades. The money came from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All program. The DOT described the project as " transforming Pryor Street and Central Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia, to safe streets with protected bike and pedestrian facilities." (11Alive.com WXIA)
  2. In a recent WalletHub list of the "best places to get married," Atlanta came in at No. 5. The financial website compared 150 of the most populated U.S. cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state, totaling 182 and measured costs, facilities, and services, and activities and attractions in each city. 3. DeKalb County will offer warming shelters as cold temperatures roll in. The centers will open today (Feb. 3) and tomorrow in Atlanta, Avondale Estates, Ellenwood, and Chamblee. Anyone using the shelters must abide by the county's COVID-19 protocols, including wearing a mask, social distancing, and receiving a temperature check. (WSB Atlanta)
  4. Are you looking to fill your social calendar this weekend? Check out the list of events happening in and around Atlanta this weekend at the link, including HBCU All-Star Battle of the Bands, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, and Martha Graham Dance Company.(Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  5. February's full moon falls on Sunday, Feb. 5, which also happens to be a "full snow moon." Its name came from how bright it shines in the snowiest time of year. If you'd like to catch a glimpse of the bright moon, the sun sets at 6:09 p.m. It will reach its highest peak in the sky around midnight. You can also see a once-in-a-lifetime rare green comet (only seen once every 50,000 years) by trying to watch "Comet ZTF" with the naked eye for a few more weeks until it's gone.
