Local favorites like Zoo Atlanta’s IllumiNights, the Botanical Garden’s Garden Lights, and Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker give metro residents plenty of ways to enjoy the holiday close to home.

Atlanta Community Food Bank needs help to feed families this holiday season (fox5atlanta.com) — Atlanta families facing food insecurity need your help right now, as the Atlanta Community Food Bank scrambles to serve more than 820,000 people across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Leaders say demand has surged this holiday season, and they’re urging residents to step up by volunteering to pack and distribute meals or donating from home to keep neighbors fed.

Fulton County high schooler tased in viral video hires civil rights attorney (atlantanewsfirst.com) — An Atlanta-area Fulton County high school student seen being tased in a viral video has hired national civil rights attorney Harry Daniels after a confrontation on a school bus. The 18-year-old says a new driver questioned his right to ride, leading a school resource officer to tase him multiple times. Fulton County Schools has since removed the officer from active duty.

Stop the presses: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is going all digital this month (wsbtv.com) — Atlanta’s daily paper is about to become digital-only, as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution ends regular print publication on Dec. 31 after 157 years and shifts readers to phones and laptops. Longtime reporters say the move reflects faster news cycles, though special print editions may still appear for major stories in the city’s dynamic, diverse community.
   

5. She lost her arms and legs now she is walking again (11alive.com) — A young Georgia woman treated at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is relearning to walk on prosthetic legs after sepsis at 17 led to the amputation of all four limbs. Now 20, she’s taking independent steps at home, pushing through painful rehab sessions with support from her therapist, family, and faith as she fights to regain her independence.
