Atlanta Bank Robber Gets Prison Time For Holdup Spree

Patrick Mouton, 47, was caught in the act after holding up eight banks during a five-month spree in metro Atlanta, say authorities.

ATLANTA, GA — A federal judge sentenced an Atlanta man Friday to five years and 10 months in prison for committing a series of bank robberies in Atlanta, Cobb County and North Fulton County. Patrick Jerome Mouton, 47, pleaded guilty on Jan. 30 to the heists, which occurred from September 2017 until February 2018, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia.

During his crime spree, Mouton robbed an Atlanta branch of Regions Bank twice, as well as seven other banks in Cobb County, Alpharetta and Sandy Springs, say authorities.

In each robbery, he approached a bank teller and passed a note that demanded cash and threatened harm, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a news release. Mouton was arrested on Feb. 2, 2018, as he attempted to rob the Regions Bank branch for a second time.

Collaboration between the FBI, the Atlanta police and the police in Cobb County, Alpharetta and Sandy Springs made Mouton's arrest and conviction possible, according to Special Agent in Charge Chris Hacker of the FBI's Atlanta field office.

“The Cobb County Police Department is proud to be part of the interagency cooperation in this case," Chief Tim Cox said in the U.S. Attorney's news release. "It is imperative law enforcement agencies continue to share information in cases like this in order to bring to justice those who prey upon the public regardless of jurisdictional lines.”
