Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:

  1. According to a new survey published on Thursday, Atlanta has the second worst inflation of any city in the country. Consumer information hub WalletHub compiled the survey, reporting that the only city with worse inflation was Phoenix, Arizona. Miami ranked third worst in inflation, followed by Tampa and Baltimore. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  2. Atlanta officials are trying to get the city council to extend the water bill amnesty program. Nearly 30,000 residential customers owe millions of dollars in unpaid water and sewer bills — a number that was dramatically increased during the pandemic. Atlanta Watershed Commissioner Mikita Browning hopes to extend the amnesty program until January 2023. The original program extension began on Jul. 28 and was scheduled to end on the first week of October. (WSB Radio)
  3. After 21 days of virtually rain-free weather, the Atlanta metro is finally seeing a minor break in the drought. Throughout Wednesday and Thursday, there was an estimated 0.5" and 1.5" of rain across Atlanta. Unfortunately, some parts of Georgia received virtually no rain and were unable to offer any measurable amounts. Experts suspect that the rain is only a break in an ongoing bout of extremely dry weather. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  4. Underground Atlanta is in for a truly unique slice of Caribbean cuisine. Dolo's, a pizza restaurant with a distinctly Caribbean taste profile, is set to open its doors in November. The pizzeria will serve Atlanta-style pies with unique flavors like chorizo, jerk chicken, and activated charcoal pesto. (Atlanta Magazine)
  5. Atlanta's Upper West Side will soon be home to an immersive new gaming experience. Beat the Bomb is a new escape room and bar offering a multitude of things to do. Teams will have to put on hazmat gear and attempt to crack codes, disarm locks, and dodge lasers to beat the escape room. To learn more or register, visit the link. (WSB Atlanta)
