Atlanta Man Convicted Of Starving 4-Year-Old Daughter To Death: Reports

Rodney McWeay was arrested in December 2023 following the death of his daughter, police said.

ATLANTA, GA — An Atlanta father was found guilty of starving his 4-year-old daughter to death, according to police and reports.

Rodney McWeay was convicted of 14 charges, including malice murder, felony murder and first-degree child cruelty in connection with the December 2023 death of Treasure McWeay, WSB-TV and 11Alive reported.

McWeay's trial began on June 9. Sentencing will be held in 30 days.

According to Atlanta police, officers responded to 4165 Renfrew Ct. SW on Dec. 11, 2023, shortly after 9:30 a.m. after receiving a call about an unresponsive child. When police arrived, they found Treasure unconscious and not breathing.

First responders took the child to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

McWeay was arrested and charged on Dec. 21, 2023, according to police.

According to an arrest report obtained by 11Alive, Treasure weighed just 24 pounds when she died from malnourishment and dehydration. Two of her siblings were also hospitalized.

In testimony during the trial, a former neighbor told jurors she frequently heard screaming and crying through the walls of the McWeay home and called 911 out of fear for the children’s safety.

"I observed some things that I felt, like, was not okay," Quasheea Cokley said, according to reports. "I also heard a lot. I just didn't think that it was a good environment for children."
