Baby Shower Bandits Steal Gifts From Atlanta Couple

Mom-to-be and fiance stare in horror as items taken from car. Incident caught on security cam, TV station says.

ATLANTA, GA -- An expectant couple had just celebrated a baby shower in Atlanta when they were victimized by thieves, according to news reports.

The mother, Chiquita Pitts, told local media that she and her fiance were loading gifts in their car Saturday when two men drove up and robbed them.

"On March 4, 2017 our son was deprived from everything he owned!" Pitts writes on a GoFundMe account. "As we cleaned up the venue ... my fiancé ('s) car was in broken into inside of the parking deck and everything was taking away from our unborn son!"

Pitts said that gifts for their unborn son, Carter, included bouncers, shoes, high chairs, "tons of Pampers" and more.

She said that while they were leaving the venue, they noticed a man toting items to another car. Her fiance yelled "Drop it," and ran toward them. That's when the men fled in a Kia Sportage and tried "to hit us as they drove out of the parking deck."

“The guy was just pulling stuff from (my fiancé s car) to his car,” Pitts told WSB-TV. “He was just pulling stuff.” The TV station said that security cameras captured the incident, which happened on Nelson Avenue near Castleberry Hill in Atlanta.

Pitts said she was able to get the tag number and called police to report the crime.

The mom-to-be wants to make clear that while loss of the merchandise hurts, her grievance is that she feels her baby has become a crime victim before he's even been born.

"I felt as if our son was violated and me being his mother I was violated as well! It's not about the items that were taking because that's materialistic but to take from a baby is by far the lowest! We are greatly appreciative of everything that our family and friends did for him! But to see it all snatched away in a matter of seconds will continue to be one of the most degrading moments in my life!" she writes.

Pitts' GoFundMe account has gotten more than $3,700 of a $5,000 goal.
