Biden, Trump Tapped For 1st 2024 Presidential Debate In Atlanta
For the first time in the 2024 presidential race, Joe Biden and Donald Trump are set to debate each other at CNN's Atlanta studios.

ATLANTA, GA — President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are set to debate for the first time this year in Georgia, a crucial state in the upcoming presidential election, CNN said in a news release issued Wednesday.
CNN extended the invite to both leaders, and the presidential hopefuls accepted, according to the news outlet.
"I’ve received and accepted an invitation from @CNN for a debate on June 27th. Over to you, Donald. As you said: anywhere, any time, any place," Biden said Wednesday.

While Trump suggested more than two debates take place, the first debate is scheduled at 9 p.m., June 27, at CNN's Atlanta studios.
"I am ready and willing to debate ... at the two proposed times in June and September. ... Just tell me when, I’ll be there. 'Let’s get ready to rumble,'" Trump said on his Truth Social account.

The news of the debate comes two months after Biden and Trump clinched wins in the 2024 Georgia presidential preference primary in March.
Their victories came as a sequel for the longtime rivals, who faced off against one another in the 2020 presidential election. Ultimately, it was Biden who won the presidential election.
Both of the candidates gave speeches in Georgia ahead of the primary, with both expressing Georgia is needed to win the presidency.
The campaign trails have been bumpy for the two candidates, with Biden's immigration policies being questioned after the recent death of Augusta University student Laken Riley and with Trump's multiple pending criminal cases against him relating to the 2020 presidential election and the subsequent Jan. 6 insurrection of the nation's Capitol.
Trump is facing several charges in Fulton County, alongside 18 allies, after being accused of trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. A trial date has not yet been set in the case.
