HOUSTON — The Atlanta Braves got behind Houston Astros hitting in Game 2 of the World Series and couldn’t make up ground, losing 7-2 to even the series at a game apiece.

Braves starter Max Fried took a beating in the bottom of the second inning from Minute Maid Park, giving up four Astros runs with the help of some quick Houston running and an outfield error.

Going into the second-inning scoring drive, with an Alex Bregman sacrifice fly to score Jose Altuve followed by a solo shot line drive over the left-field wall from Travis D’Arnaud, Houston’s bats got hot.

Jose Siri singled to second base, driving Yuli Gurriel to second and Kyle Tucker home as Ozzie Albie tried to make a play at first. Then Martin Maldonado singled on a grounder to left field scoring Gurriel, as Eddie Rosario misjudged a throw back to third base, missing Austin Riley as Siri scored for an error. Maldonado then scored from second on a Michael Brantley ground ball to right field.

The Braves’ only other run came from a fifth-inning Freddie Freeman line drive to left field to score D’Arnaud. Houston skipper Dusty Baker retired starter Jose Arquidy after the run with seven strikeouts.

In the sixth inning, with runners at the corners and two outs, Gurriel grounded to the left side of the infield on a fielder’s choice scoring Tucker. On the play, shortstop Dansby Swanson’s throw to Albies was bobbled as the second-baseman tried to gather the ball on the tag and relay to first for a 5-4-3 double play. All runners were ruled safe, even after a Braves review request.

On the first at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning, Altuve took the first pitch to left field for a punctuating home run.

The teams will have Thursday off to travel back to Atlanta.

Game 3 begins Friday at 8:09 p.m. EST from Truist Park in Atlanta and will be broadcast nationally on TV by Fox and carried by ESPN Radio with streaming on YouTube TV and Hulu Live.
