The Atlanta Braves clinched their first World Series win in 26 years by beating the Houston Astros Tuesday.

HOUSTON — Three home runs gave the Atlanta Braves a 7-0 win against the Houston Astros in Game 6 of the World Series. The Braves win Tuesday night on the road, bringing home the title the team last snagged in 1995, when they defeated the Cleveland Indians in six games.

First baseman Freddie Freeman gave the Braves a 7-0 score when he hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. Freeman jumped on the third pitch with one ball and one strike, sending a flyball screaming to center left field.

In the fifth inning, the Braves hit their second home run of the night by shortstop Dansby Swanson, bringing the team to a 5-0 lead. Shortly after, Freddie Freeman hits a double, bringing in another run with outfielder Jorge Soler scoring, moving the Braves up to 6-0.

The Braves’ defense was as hot as their bats at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Atlanta infielders closed the third and fourth innings on double plays, turning a 1-6-3 (from pitcher Max Fried to Swanson at second base to Freeman on first) Michael Brantley hopping grounder in the third, and a 4-5-3 (Albies to Swanson at second to Freeman) from a Yordan Alvarez groundball.

Fried came on strong in the bottom of the fifth inning, striking out Kyle Tucker (swinging) and Alex Bregman (looking) before Jose Siri hit a flyball to Joc Pederson for a third out. He exited the game in the sixth inning after pitching six shutout innings with nine strikeouts.

The teams made it into the third inning with no score as the stingy defense has stifled runs early. Starting pitchers Fried and Houston's Luis Garcia had combined strikeouts backed by deft field play to keep runners from reaching home plate.

Then, after Ozzie Albies made it on base with a groundball single to right field and stole second and Eddie Rosario was walked, Jorge Soler hit a three-run bomb over the Minute Maid Park "railroad" tracks that moves the stadium roof.

Winning the World Series in Houston wasn't the same as what awaited the team inside and outside of the ballpark in Atlanta for Game 5 on Sunday night. Still, fans crowded into the Battery to celebrate.

Fried got the win in his second start from the mound for the series, after leading off a losing effort in Game 2. Before the game, he told mlb.com reporter Jesse Sanches there he couldn't hold back if the Braves want a win.

“I'm ready to go out there and leave it all on the field,” Fried said. “It's probably going to be my last outing of the year, so there's nothing to hold back.”
