Clark Atlanta University Basketball Program Off Probation
Sanctions lifted after school was cited in 2014 for 'lack of institutional control.'

ATLANTA, GA -- Clark Atlanta University has been removed from probation by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the school announced this week.
In 2014, the NCAA's Division II Committee on Infractions declared that CAU didn't do a good enough job of monitoring its athletes on its men's basketball team. The school was cited for "lack of institutional control."
The findings stemmed from the actions of a former volunteer coach who was found to have conducted himself "unethically and provided impermissible benefits to student-athletes in cash, airline tickets and meals," the NCAA said at the time.

CAU cooperated with the NCAA through a summary disposition process, nullifying the need for a formal hearing.
The penalties included three years of probation and a vacation of wins in games that ineligible student-athletes competed in.

Upon lifting of the sanctions, University President Dr. Ronald A. Johnson said that the program has "made tremendous strides" and that the school is ready to move forward.
"We are pleased that the Committee has recognized the diligent work of the University, particularly our Department of Athletics and our Compliance function, to satisfactorily address all of the issues" he said in a news release.
"We have made tremendous strides during the last year and will continue to reach model program status," Director of Athletics J. Lin Dawson was quoted as saying.
