Coronavirus GA: State Lost $1 Billion In Tax Revenue In April
Georgia's tax revenue fell by more than 35 percent compared to April 2019. Stage agencies are bracing for deep cuts.
ATLANTA, GA — Georgia is in the midst of reopening for business, but it is doing so amid a budget crisis. On Wednesday, Gov. Brian Kemp announced that April's collected tax revenue of $1.84 billion was more than a third less than taken in during April 2019.
The shortall for April alone totals $1.03 billion.
In the news release, Kemp linked the sharp decline in tax revenue with "the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic," while he specifically noted the "profound impact" of delayed payment deadlines for motor vehicle, corporate and individual income taxes.

On May 1, Kemp's budget's office notified state agencies that budgets would be slashed by 14 percent. The cuts could reduce the state budget by as much as $3.5 billion.
