Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:
- A Clayton County couple got married on Jan. 15, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, and decades later, the two specially celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Dr. Geffry Tate and his wife, Rose, were invited to the Beloved Community Commemorative Service at the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church yesterday. The Tates chose King's birthday as their wedding date to honor his legacy and global impact. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- According to the American Automobile Association, Georgia drivers are paying 25 cents more for gas than a week ago, averaging $3.06 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Prices have continued to rise after the state's gas tax suspension ended on Jan. 10. (WSB Atlanta)
- The Atlanta Police Department supplied officers with take-home cars off of Metropolitan Parkway. Chief Darin Schierbaum wants the community to see more patrolling and a more extensive police presence in neighborhoods and surrounding areas of Zone 3, including Adair Park, Capitol View, Chosewood Park, Hammond Park, Joyland, Lakewood Heights, Mechanicsville, Peoplestown, and more. Chief Schierbaum's goal is to give every member of field operations a vehicle. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Prepare for several Chick-fil-A locations in the area to be closed for more than just Sunday; many chains in north Georgia will be undergoing remodeling improvements. One popular Chick-fil-A in particular, on North Druid Hills Road in Atlanta, will be closed until Jan. 29. Restaurants in Calhoun and Peachtree will also close for upgrades in the upcoming weeks. - East Point Fire Department firefighters put out a fire that started in a home off Ben Hill Road yesterday morning. The roof and second floor of the house had significant damage, but no one was injured during the incident. Officials are investigating the fire and how it began. (11Alive.com WXIA)
