CVS Closing Stores, Georgia Locations Awaiting Their Fate

GEORGIA — CVS Health officials Thursday said a plan is in place to close 900 stores over the next three years, but the exact impact to Connecticut will not be known for months.

The closings amount to about 10 percent of CVS stores. CVS Health said the announcement is a response to evolving "consumer buying patterns."

A CVS spokesman told Patch Thursday that, "Changes to our store footprint won't start until the end of Q1 2022.

She added, "We'll provide more details, including specific locations, when available."

Georgia has 346 stores.

CVS officials said Thursday that the "right kinds of stores in the right locations for consumers and for the business" are the ultimate goal.

The closures are part of a big-picture re-drawing of the CVS map across about 10,000 locations. The plan includes the remodeling of some stores to focus on expanded health services — including primary care — and an "enhanced version" of the company's HealthHub layout.

CVS Chief Executive Officer Karen Lynch said, "We remain focused on the competitive advantage provided by our presence in thousands of communities across the country, which complements our rapidly expanding digital presence."
