Daily Scattered Storms With Gusty Winds To Pummel GA: Forecast

While no severe weather is anticipated, weather officials said storms could scatter throughout the GA region in the afternoon and evening.

GEORGIA — Scattered storms capable of producing lightning could threaten parts of north and central Georgia through Friday evening, with daily storms forecast through the tail end of next week.

Wind gusts nearly reaching 40 mph are expected alongside heavy rainfall with some of Friday's strongest storms, the National Weather Service said.

While no severe weather is anticipated, weather officials said storms could scatter throughout the Georgia region in the afternoon and evening hours every day through Thursday.

The following counties could see daily rainfall: Barrow, Bartow, Cherokee, Clarke, Cobb, Clayton, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Muscogee, Henry, Gwinnett, Hall, Paulding, Fulton, Oconee and Rockdale, among others.

The temperature, standing at 83 degrees Friday afternoon, is expected to slightly climb up to a high of 87 degrees by Tuesday in metro Atlanta. This is a change from recent temperatures in the 90s.

Less than an inch of rainfall is expected, with Sunday having the highest probability for rain chances at 90 percent in the metro, Columbus and Savannah areas.

Georgia joins other states nationwide who could experience thunderstorms this weekend. Florida, Maryland and Virginia could all be hit by weekend storms, according to the NWS forecast.

AccuWeather forecasters said hail and flash flood-producing rain could cover the Great Plains in coming days. Straight-line wind gusts are also possible with storms, forecasters said.

As of around 4 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service predicted the following detailed forecast for metro Atlanta:

This Afternoon: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Saturday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely between midnight and 2 a.m., then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Sunday: A chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m. High near 86. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
