Delta Issues Travel Waivers For Atlanta, 28 NE Airports
An arctic blast of winter weather is expected to hit the eastern seaboard on Tuesday ahead of Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta.

ATLANTA -- Delta Air Lines has issued weather waiver for Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and 28 Northeast airports, including New York's LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International Airports, ahead of projected winter weather on Tuesday, January 29 and Wednesday, January 30. The waiver will allow customers traveling to, from or through any of those cities on these days to make a one-time change to their travel plans without incurring a fee.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow is expected across the upper midwest and upper Great Lakes, as arctic air is expected to bring dangerous wind chills across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest starting Tuesday. Blizzard warnings are currently in effect for eastern portions of North and South Dakota, where 3 to 6 inches of snow can accompany wind gusts up to 60 mph.
Late Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for all of north Georgia and much of metro Atlanta, that goes into effect Monday night and will last through Tuesday evening. As tens of thousands of people arrive in Atlanta for Super Bowl LIII, forecasters predict snowfall amounts of up to two inches of snow throughout metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

Delta said the storm could impact its hub in Atlanta, where Delta's meteorologists currently forecast a potential for up to half of an inch of snowfall on Tuesday, beginning in the late morning hours and continuing into the afternoon. As temperatures drop into the twenties on Tuesday evening, melting snow is expected to freeze and create a potential for icy roads in the Atlanta metropolitan area through Wednesday morning.
