Donald Glover Gave Atlanta the Biggest Shoutout Ever
Actor's Golden Globes thank-you hits home with city and ... Migos?
ATLANTA, GA -- Actor Donald Glover gave Atlanta a major shoutout during an acceptance speech Sunday night after his comedy-drama TV series "Atlanta" won a Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy Series.
“I really want to thank Atlanta and all the black folks in Atlanta, just for being alive … just for being amazing people," Glover, the show's creator, said during the Globes, which was broadcast Sunday night.
Due to generous tax breaks, the city has become known as a production ground for TV shows and Hollywood movies, but rarely does top-level talent verbalize the virtues so eloquently as Glover did before a national audience.

"I couldn’t be here without Atlanta,” the actor said. His FX show "Atlanta" about a group of young black men trying to make it in music has been hailed as a subversive genius of a show.

The gag (or was it?) in Glover's speech was that he singled out local hip-hop group Migos. He thanked the rappers “not for being in the show but for making a song called “Bad and Boujee,” he said to scattered laughter. "Like, that’s the best song ever.”
Glover, an actor known to many for his role on "Community," was raised in metro Atlanta near Stone Mountain. He is also a successful rapper, calling himself Childish Gambino.
The popular series will debut its second season later this year. In December, it won a Critics’ Choice Most Exciting New Series award and Glover took home the Best Actor in a Comedy Series award.
