- The Injury Prevention Research Center at Emory University, Grady Health System, and the University of Michigan were awarded a five-year, $4.4 million grant to continue studying motor vehicle crashes in the metro Atlanta area. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is funding the project in its next phase of motor-vehicle crash research and will now expand to include crashes where vehicles strike pedestrians. - Metric Mate, an Atlanta-based data-analytics company whose patented technology makes gym equipment "SMART," debuted on the reality show "Shark Tank," where entrepreneurs get the chance to pitch their products to investors. The episode aired on Jan. 13, where the team pitched its innovative technology designed to help maximize progress at the gym. - Law enforcement is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect accused of fatally shooting a man on Friday. The Atlanta Police Department released a surveillance image hoping to get more information from the community. The suspect, who police said is bald, with a grey beard and wearing a black sweater and grey pants, killed an unidentified man on Marietta Street around 8:15 a.m. (Atlanta Patch)
- The Atlanta Regional Commission opened its "Call for Projects" applications for the Community Development Assistance Program, which provides planning assistance to local governments, Community Improvement Districts, and nonprofits in the metro Atlanta region. Neighborhood groups, nonprofits, community-based organizations, and a group of committed neighbors are eligible for the application in partnership with the local government.
