Felicia Moore Announces Bid for City Council Presidency
District 9 City Councilwoman makes it official Thursday morning.
ATLANTA, GA -- District 9's City Councilwoman Felicia A. Moore announced Thursday morning that she will run for council president.
"Today I am very honored and proud to announce that I am an official candidate for the open City Council president's race," she said to raucous applause in front of a brick building in Midtown.
Moore's District 9 includes parts of Midtown, Buckhead and some of the most high-profile landmarks in the city. She has been out front and frequently quoted in the media on issues that adversely affect residents, such as carjackings and break-ins.
Moore has been one of the more vocal supporters of surveillance cameras around the city to deter crime.
Speaking to Patch last month, Moore said the cameras were only part of the solution and that police investigators needed to work in tandem.
"The camera doesn’t arrest anybody," she told Patch in a phone interview. "It's a tool you can put in place to find out who did it, and make the arrest afterward."
On Thursday, she said, "I will make sure that my spotless record on transparency and ethical governance benefits everyone in Atlanta. Together, we will make the city leaders like Martin Luther King and those recent college graduates like I was who visited the city, make this the city that we know that it can be. Atlanta deserves more."

It is unclear if current City Council President Ceasar Mitchell, who has announced that he will run for Atlanta mayor, will back Moore.
