Four Students Shot At Atlanta University Center

Four female students were caught in a crossfire between two groups shooting at each other Tuesday night.

ATLANTA — A prayer vigil is being planned for Wednesday after four female students were shot Tuesday night on the Atlanta University Center campus. Police said the students suffered injuries from graze wounds to actual gunshot wounds. The shooting happened outside an Atlanta University Center library when two groups, according to police, began shooting at each other, catching the students in the crossfire.

The shootings happened around 10:30 pm. Atlanta University Center is a collection of some of the nation's most prestigious historically black colleges and universities in the nation, and includes the campuses of Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and the Morehouse School of Medicine.

The students' condition are unknown.

Morehouse College made national news earlier this year when billionaire Robert F. Smith, the 2019 commencement speaker at Morehouse College, told the graduating class that he is creating a grant to eliminate their student loans. Morehouse is the world's only historically black college and university for men.

A prayer vigil has been scheduled for noon Wednesday on the promenade, a brick walkway that runs in front of the library and continues through Clark Atlanta’s campus.
