Expect Temperatures In The 20s This Weekend For North Georgia, Forecasters Say

Forecasters expect cold weather Tuesday and Wednesday night, but lows dive into the 20s this weekend in Atlanta and north Georgia.

ATLANTA, GA — Cold weather coming this weekend, forecasters predict. Bitterly cold overnight temperatures will blast the Carolinas, Georgia and even Florida.

The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures dropping below freezing Tuesday and Wednesday night and again on Friday and Saturday nights.

An intense storm that is expected to blanket the Northeast with snow and wind this weekend will also send frigid air and send temperatures plunging below freezing as far south as the Florida Everglades, AccuWeather forecasters said.

"The cold air will settle into the Southeast from Friday night into Sunday. Temperatures from Mississippi to Georgia and upstate South Carolina will slip into the 20s F Friday night and will be stuck in the 30s for daytime highs Saturday," the weather site said. "However, Saturday night is when temperatures in most of the region will take the biggest plunge."

On Tuesday night there will be light showers in the high altitudes, but it is unlikely that any falling moisture will survive evaporation before hitting the ground, National Weather Service forecasters said.

While the mercury is predicted to drop just below freezing the next two nights and rise again Thursday, expect temperatures closer to the 20s headed into the weekend. Of course, colder temperatures are forecast further north, with numbers dropping to the mid-20s Tuesday and Wednesday up near Rome and in higher elevations.

Mostly clear skies, however, mean little chance of precipitation and the resulting hazards that follow.
