  1. As opioid overdoses increase across the country, metro Atlanta school districts are stocking up on the life-saving drug Narcan for emergencies. Fulton County Schools announced the medication, which reverses the effects of an opioid overdose, would be available soon in every school, including elementary schools. Middle and high schools are already supplied. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  2. The attorney representing former Atlanta police officer Sung Kim, who was charged with murder in the FBI task force shooting of Jimmy Atchison, asked that his client's case be moved to federal court. The 26-year police veteran shot Atchison in January 2019. Atchison was wanted for stealing a woman's cell phone at gunpoint; however, he was unarmed when Kim shot him.   3. An outdoor, interactive oral history experience is now on display at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights until October. The “Out Down South” exhibit commemorates Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ history through portraiture and oral histories told by local queer heroes.   4. The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival will return from Feb. 8-21 in four different theaters. The festival showcases short subjects, animated films, and documentaries totaling 60 movies bringing in nearly 40,000 attendees.   5. The city of East Point encourages the community to assist nearby residents impacted by the recent tornado in Selma, Alabama, and nearby towns in Georgia. The city is hosting a donation drive on Jan. 28 beginning at 10:00 a.m., where the community can donate items from water and paper towels to baby formula and food.   • The Fulton County Board of Health is partnering with organizations in the area to provide free fentanyl test strips so the public can check drugs for its presence. Fentanyl tests are available on the StopHIVATL website. (GPB News)
