Jezelle's mentor & family friend says the outstanding 1st grader has "a knack for bringing people together."

Atlanta, GA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Co-Founder & Executive Director Nichelle Wilson of HAPPY MAMA HAPPY MINI, INC. who nominated Jezelle of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Jezelle epitomizes the essence of a star student, not only through her outstanding academic achievements but also through her vibrant engagement with the world around her. From a tender age, Jezelle's fervor for learning was unmistakable. Even at two years old, her determination to master reading was captured in videos that showed a visible sparkle in her eye—a clear indicator of her early passion. Jezelle's educational journey began at the Georgia State University Lanette Suttles Center, continuing at Amana Academy, where both institutions have nurtured her enthusiasm for learning. This nurturing environment has allowed her to excel, maintaining A+/Exceeding Mastery in all her subjects, including STEM and Arabic, a testament to her academic diligence. Beyond academics, Jezelle's activities reflect a well-rounded and socially engaged individual. She has been an active participant in various extracurriculars, from acting in Sandy Springs Citi Springs Theater and Roswell's Building Character acting classes to performing in dance at her school talent show and participating in Atlanta Ballet for 3.5 years. Her love for gymnastics and her admiration for Dominique Dawes, whom she playfully emulates as "Little DD," further showcase her dynamic personality and diverse interests. Jezelle's commitment to her community is equally impressive. She has engaged in service projects like delivering coloring sheets to retirement communities, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities to brighten the days of older adults. Her initiative in organizing fundraisers, like selling over $2,000 worth of popcorn for her school, underscores her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to contributing positively to her school's environment. Perhaps most striking is Jezelle's deep sense of empathy and connection. She cherishes her relationships with her educators, maintaining contact with every teacher she has had over the past four years. Her ability to organize family meet-ups and playdates with the acumen of an adult highlights her leadership qualities and her knack for bringing people together. In addition to her activities, Jezelle's character is profoundly shaped by her values and faith. Her resilience in the face of disappointment and her ability to persevere, reflected in her saying, "we don't cry, we try," along with her reliance on her faith, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," illustrate a maturity beyond her years. Jezelle's outstanding qualities extend far beyond the classroom. She embodies a blend of academic excellence, community engagement, leadership, and a compassionate spirit that truly makes her a star student—one poised to make a significant impact on the world as she grows. Her late great grandfather’s endearing nickname for her, "sweet sweet baby," speaks volumes of her character, which she earnestly strives to uphold. This blend of intelligence, creativity, and heart not only makes her an exceptional student but also a young individual ready to tackle complex issues in an age-appropriate manner, ever eager to learn and grow.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
One thing I want people to know about Jezelle is her extraordinary ability to form meaningful connections with everyone she meets, from her educators to peers, and even community members. This unique quality not only showcases her empathetic nature but also her genuine interest in others' well-being and her desire to make a positive impact on the world around her. Her ability to maintain these connections and nurture them with care goes beyond what is typical for her age, reflecting a maturity and a compassionate spirit that truly make her stand out.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Jezelle!
