GBI To Investigate A Shooting By An Atlanta Police Officer

Atlanta police officers were responding to a domestic dispute early Monday morning when gunfire erupted.

ATLANTA, GA – The Atlanta Police Department has asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate a shooting involving one of its officers early Monday morning.

The incident began when APD officers responded at 4:30 a.m. to a call about a domestic incident involving a weapon at 1999 Bent Creek Way, SW, in Atlanta, according to the APD.

The location is an apartment complex known as the Preserve at Bent Creek Apartments.

Upon arrival, APD officers encountered a male subject with a rifle who was shooting at a female. The female was later identified as the subject’s girlfriend. When confronted, the man shot at the police officers, who returned fire.

The subject ran through parts of the apartment complex while continuing to shoot at police. He was eventually shot by an APD officer and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for medical treatment, but his condition is unknown at this time.

The female was also taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for a gunshot wound to her hand.

No police officers were injured during this incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for review.
