Georgia Dome Demolition Set For November: Officials

Georgia Dome Demolition Set For November

ATLANTA, GA -- The Georgia Dome, home of so many memories for Atlanta Falcons and prep school football playoff fans, has an official expiration date, Patch has learned. The Georgia Dome will be imploded at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 20, AMB Group, the company that owns the Atlanta Falcons, announced recently.

The dome is being supplanted by the city's new pro football venue, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which reportedly cost $1.2 billion. The new stadium has been plagued by delays related to its retractable roof, but owners vow that it is going to be ready for the Falcons exhibition game against the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 26, the company said.

The dome has been the home of the Falcons for the past quarter-century, including the host of Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000.
