Georgia Weather Forecast: Not Cooling Down Soon

Heat will take some of the attention away from storms, at least for the beginning of the forecast. Here's the latest on weather in Georgia.

By the middle of the week, we'll have settled into a daily routine of temps in the low 90s and a stray afternoon shower or storm.

But the beginning of the week will be unusually hot … with a stray afternoon shower or storm.

Isolated storms this week could produce strong, gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain, according to the weather service.

For the start of the week, temperatures will be near 93 degrees. But the heat index, or "feels like" temperature, will reach as high as 99 degrees on Monday and 97 degrees on Tuesday.

The temperatures will cool a couple of degrees for the rest of the week and into the weekend, but highs will stay in the 90s, according AccuWeather Meteorologist Kyle Elliott.

"With no strong pushes of cool air from Canada on the horizon, people from the mid-Atlantic to the Deep South can expect virtually no relief from the high heat and humidity," Elliott said.

Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Monday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 99. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 97. West wind around 5 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91.

Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92.

Sunday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 91.
