Georgia Weather: Temperature Swings, Showers and Storms in Forecast

It'll get hot before it gets cold this week, with showers threatening all week. Here's the latest forecast.

ATLANTA, GA -- The week will start out near 70 degrees, but we'll see much colder temperatures before the new year, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service. And there will be a few chances to put an umbrella to good use.

We'll start with a chance for showers and possibly a thunderstorm on Tuesday, as temperatures climb to near 70 degrees. Winds will also be noticeable.

There's a slight chance for showers Wednesday afternoon, with temperatures staying in the 60s. Showers are likely Wednesday night and into Thursday, as temperatures begin dropping.

We'll see a low Thursday night near 34 degrees, and the high Friday will only be 48 degrees. It will be another cold night near freezing Friday night.

Temperatures will begin warming Saturday, but it comes with showers in the forecast for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Tuesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 8am. Cloudy, with a high near 69. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 65. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

Thursday: Showers likely, mainly before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 48.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 33.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 52.

Saturday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.

New Year's Day: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
