Gov.-Elect Brian Kemp Visits President Trump, VP At White House

Trump and Pence were strong and visible supporters of Kemp during the nation's most watched governor's race this year.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Georgia Gov.-elect Brian Kemp met with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence earlier this week at the White House. Kemp is preparing to take office next month as Georgia's next governor after he defeated Democrat Stacey Abrams in the nation's most watched governor's race last month. Both Trump and Pence made high-profile campaign rallies for Kemp in the race's final days.

Kemp led Republicans to another sweep of every statewide elected constitutional office, a dominance the GOP has enjoyed since 2002. Abrams was seeking to become the nation's first African-American female governor in history, as well as Georgia's first Democrat elected to a statewide office in the 21st century.

While more Democrats were elected to state legislative positions this past election than in recent memory, Republicans still hold a solid majority in both the state House and Senate.
