ATLANTA, GA — A ground stop has been issued until 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport due to weather and wind during storms, according to an advisory from the Federal Aviation Administration.

All inbound flights into Hartsfield were being held at their origin during the stop, which was initially scheduled to end at 3:15 p.m., FlightAware reported.

Flash flooding may hit the north Georgia mountains between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday due to the slow pace of storms.

Rainfall could range from 1-4 inches, and flash flooding could reach within 25 miles of an affected location, the NWS reported.

Conditions may be favorable for menacing surf and rip current conditions at local beaches due to possible impacts from Hurricane Erin.

The storm is expected to remain at sea and avoid direct landfall in the continental U.S., according to weather forecasters.

"Hurricane Erin has decided not to visit Georgia, can't say we're disappointed," the National Weather Service said in a Facebook post published Monday.

A NWS graphic shows the powerful system missing the Peach State, but narrowly bringing possible impacts to other parts of the East Coast. Even so, weather officials say the conditions this week could include life-threatening rip currents, high surf and heightened swells along the Georgia coast.
