Group Led By Chris Carr Told Trump Supporters To March to Capitol

ATLANTA, GA — The Rule of Law Defense Fund — the policy and fundraising arm of the Republican Attorneys General Association, which Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr chairs — robocalled supporters of President Donald Trump to tell them to march on the Capitol Jan. 6 to "stop the steal."

The robocall encouraged supporters of the president to call on Congress to block the certification of the 2020 election results — which certified President-elect Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States — according to Documented, an investigative watch-dog group, which first reported the news Jan. 7.

"I’m calling for the Rule of Law Defense Fund with an important message," the robocall from Tuesday, Jan. 5, said. "The march to save America is tomorrow in Washington D.C. at the Ellipse in President’s Park between E St. and Constitution Avenue on the south side of the White House, with doors opening at 7 a.m. At 1 p.m., we will march to the Capitol building and call on congress to stop the steal. We are hoping patriots like you will join us to continue to fight to protect the integrity of our elections. For more information, visit MarchtoSaveAmerica.com. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,a spokeswoman for Carr said he "unequivocally had no knowledge or involvement" in the robocall and "is working diligently to determine how this situation occurred and ensure that it does not happen again."

RLDF was also listed as one of several sponsors of the "Participating in the March to Save America" alongside entities like the Tea Party Patriots, Moms for America, Stop the Steal, WildProtest.com and Turning Point Action, Documented reported.

In a statement to the AJC, the executive director of RAGA said the group did not sponsor the rally, and said the RLDF staff made a decision to support the event, which led to a Capitol siege and five people died.

“The Republican Attorneys General Association and Rule of Law Defense Fund had no involvement in the planning, sponsoring, or the organization of Wednesday’s event,” said Adam Piper, executive director of RAGA, in a statement to the AJC. “No Republican AG authorized the staff’s decision to amplify a colleague speaking at the event. Organizationally and individually, we strongly condemn and disavow the events which occurred.”
