Heat Index Forecast To Be In The Triple Digits In Atlanta This Week

ATLANTA, GA — For the first time this year, the heat index is forecast to surpass 100 degrees this week in parts of northern and central Georgia.
On Monday afternoon, the temperature is expected to be 96 degrees in Atlanta, according to the National Weather Service. With the heat index, the temperature is expected to feel more like 105 degrees outside.
“Please take caution to protect yourself and others from the impacts of the upcoming heat wave,” according to an alert by the NWS. “If spending time outdoors, try to limit strenuous activities and wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.

“If working outdoors is necessary, stay hydrated, and take breaks in the shade as often as possible. Look before you lock, to avoid leaving pets or children in unattended vehicles. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.”
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will also be possible Monday afternoon and evening, along with gusty winds and frequent lightning, according to NWS.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible each day from Tuesday through Thursday, primarily during the afternoon and evening. Isolated thunderstorms will then be possible mainly in central Georgia on Friday.
