K9, Suspect Die In Shooting During GA Police Chase

A driver was accused of going 110 mph, refusing to stop for a GA deputy, leading a police chase, shooting the deputy and killing the K9.

FULTON COUNTY, GA — A Coweta County police K9 and a suspect are dead, and a deputy was injured, after a chase resulted in gunfire and ended in Fulton County, authorities said Thursday.

A Coweta County deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Chrysler 300 driving 110 mph around 11 p.m. at North Highway 29 near Tommy Lee Cook Road in Newnan, the Coweta County Sheriff's Office said.

The unidentified driver of the Chrysler refused to stop, and a police chase entered Fulton, authorities said.

The deputy pitted the car and deployed K9 officer Titan to help apprehend the driver, authorities said.

The driver was then accused of shooting in the direction of the deputy and Titan, hitting Titan multiple times. Titan was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The deputy shot back, killing the suspect at the scene, authorities said. The deputy suffered multiple graze wounds in the shooting but is expected to make a full recovery, authorities said. The deputy has since been released from the hospital.

Titan had been with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office for at least five years. During his time there, he found several missing people, identified illegal narcotics and helped with apprehending multiple suspects, authorities said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is overseeing the probe in the case.
