Macy's To Close Atlanta Area Location In 2021
The department store chain announced a new round of store closures on Wednesday, including a Macy's location in Georgia.

ATLANTA, GA — One day after confirming more Macy's locations would close, the department store chain revealed a new round of store closures on Wednesday — including the location in Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta, according to USA Today.
The next set of store closures is part of Macy's three-year plan to close 125 stores, or about one-fifth of its locations, first announced in February 2020. As many as 45 stores could close this year, company officials said this week.
As of Oct. 31, Macy's Inc. had 764 total locations, which includes 544 Macy's stores, 166 Bluemercury stores and 54 Bloomingdale's locations. Some liquidation sales have started with more expected to start this month for the next eight to 12 weeks, USA Today reported.

The Macy's at Greenbriar Mall, along with 31 other Macy's and Bloomingdale's closures, are slated to close by the end of Macy's first quarter, which ends April 30. The store at Greenbriar Mall — located at 2841 Greenbriar Parkway SW, Suite 53, Atlanta — is still open as of publication Jan. 8.
As many as 125 stores could close by 2023, Macy's officials have said.

In a November earnings report, Macy's declared that same-store sales for the quarter declined by greater than 20 percent and cited the coronavirus pandemic.
Digital sales grew by 27 percent, but the gains were not enough to offset store-related losses, according to the report.
Officials said Macy's is "committed to rightsizing our store fleet" by concentrating existing retail locations in "desirable and well-trafficked A and B malls."
