This Major GA Town Ideal For Thanksgiving Celebrations, Experts Say

With minimal flight delays and its holiday decor shops, Thanksgiving is best spent in this Georgia town, WalletHub says.

ATLANTA, GA — It is almost thyme for Turkey Day, and experts say one Georgia town is the second best place to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Atlanta is the sole Georgia city to land on a top 100 list of Best Places to Go for Thanksgiving, gobbling up its competition. The survey was conducted by the personal finance agency WalletHub.

Georgians will be feasting on turkey and trimmings as Thanksgiving flies into town on Nov. 28.

WalletHub used 18 key metrics, including weather forecasts and flight delays, to determine rankings for its recent holiday survey.

Only San Diego, California bested Atlanta on the national list.

“The best cities for celebrating Thanksgiving all have an abundance of high-quality restaurants and places to buy festive decorations, and their residents get very excited for the holiday based on their Google search history," WalletHub Analyst Chip Lupo said in the report. "Other features make individual cities stand out; for example, San Diego has great weather, Atlanta has a fantastic track record for on-time flights, and San Francisco has surprisingly affordable accommodations.”

According to WalletHub, Atlanta is home to a host of holiday decoration shops and highly-rated eateries per capita. Experts said Google searches show Atlanta residents have exhibited tons of interest in celebrating Thanksgiving.

The southern town, home to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, has proven to have minimal flight delays during the busy season.

WalletHub said only 10 percent of flights coming in or out of Atlanta this time a year ago were delayed, the third-lowest percentage in the U.S.

Additionally, Georgia's capital is among the top cities for the number of charities per capita as its residents give an average of 5.5 percent of their income to charity, the 17th-highest percentage in the U.S., WalletHub said.
