Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:

  1. Atlanta police are on the hunt for a person who allegedly shot and killed a man in an apartment complex this weekend. Officers were called to the complex on Sunday afternoon just before 2:00 p.m. Crime Stoppers Atlanta released a photo of the person of interest in the case and ask anyone with information to call. (WSB Atlanta)
  2. The organizers of the 404 Festival have canceled the event. The organizers said that the decision was "in light of recent events." Organizers are working to secure a new date for the event, which they say will be announced in the near future. The announcement comes a week after the cancelation of Music Midtown. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  3. Gun violence has ravaged Atlanta this summer, and Mayor Andre Dickens had a message for illegal gun-toters: "If you pull a gun in this town, you are going to jail." Mayor Dickens addressed the city council after a shooting that killed two and injured four at Rosa L. Burney Park. However, the mayor did say that statistics are moving in the right direction. Year-over-year, the city has recorded only 49 "serious crimes" this year as compared to 57 last year. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  4. Summer is coming to an end, but the fun is just getting started. Festivals and food are coming to the Atlanta metro as we ease our way into fall. Food That Rocks will hold three sessions on Aug. 19 and 20 in Sandy Springs. The Georgia Mountain Fair will feature music, animals, food, and exciting rides for the whole family. For an artsy experience, see the Piedmont Park Arts Festival. Click the link to see details on all these upcoming events. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  5. 1,000 Ring security systems were donated to Atlanta seniors through the nonprofit called HouseProud. The security system, which includes a doorbell, camera, and pathway lights, was provided by tech giant Amazon. The nonprofit helps families in need with necessities such as roofing and accessories like security systems. (CBS 46 News)
