Williams was accused of assaulting Roman's mother and "forcibly" gaining control of her silver 2017 Volkswagen Passat. Police said Williams left the mother stranded and took off with Roman.

Police initially thought Williams may have been headed to Florida when they said he fled toward Interstate 75. A Levi's Call, Georgia's Amber Alert, was issued for Roman's whereabouts.

Warrants for kidnapping, false imprisonment, simple battery, theft by taking motor vehicle, theft by taking, interfering with a 911 call and third-degree cruelty to children were issued against Williams, police said.

"We are extremely grateful for their swift response and cooperation. ... Thank you to everyone who shared the alert and remained vigilant. Your support makes a difference," Clayton County Police said in an update.
