Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:

  1. One person was stabbed at the Mall of Georgia outside of Atlanta yesterday. The suspect smashed jewelry counters at Macy's in an attempt to steal items when they stabbed a store employee. Police shot the suspect after he fled and was in the hospital with severe injuries as of Friday evening. (AM 920 The ANSWER)
  2. The Georgia Department of Public Health will be offering monkeypox vaccines all weekend during the Atlanta Black Pride celebration. An additional 5,500 doses of the vaccine was provided to the state by the CDC. Vaccination events and locations can be found at the link. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. The Atlanta Police has reported success in recruiting officers outside of the Peach State. The police department's goal is to hire 250 officers for the force by the end of the year. An event in Miami last week brought 108 attendees and gave the department 66 potential hires. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  4. A man was shot Thursday night in what officials believe was a targeted attack. The victim died on scene at the 3200 block of Lynfield Drive in Southwest Atlanta. Police say the investigation is ongoing and appears to be drug-related. (WSB Atlanta)
  5. The Atlanta Police Department reported officers swam after a suspect on Aug. 25 and made a water arrest. Fleeing suspect Jetarvius Q. Thompson was arrested and charged with reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, obstruction, theft by receiving stolen vehicle, driving while unlicensed, and possession of tools to commit a crime. The suspect also had a warrant for his arrest for a murder in 2017. (City of Atlanta Police Department via Facebook)
