A new 2025 U-Haul Growth Index also puts Georgia in the top 10 growth states, reflecting strong in-migration to the Atlanta region.

2. Water authority in metro Atlanta wants lawmakers to address ‘forever chemicals' issue (wsbradio.com) — Metro Atlanta water officials say tests show ‘forever chemicals’ in local drinking water remain well below dangerous levels, but they’re urging lawmakers to act before contamination worsens. The Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority wants certain consumer products banned so these persistent compounds don’t reach landfills and waterways, following a 2025 report that found concerning levels across Georgia and other states.

3. Atlanta Man Accused Of Stealing Beyoncé's Unreleased Music Pleads Not Guilty (wbls.com) — An Atlanta-area man has pleaded not guilty in Fulton County to charges tied to a high-profile July 2025 theft of Beyoncé tour-related items from a vehicle near Krog Street Market. Investigators say hard drives with unreleased music, laptops, and other valuables were taken, and a follow-up case management hearing is set for February 11 as attorneys review evidence and potential trial dates.

4. Young Thug to get back hundreds of thousands in cash, numerous cars, guns and jewelry from Georgia (11alive.com) — An Atlanta judge has ordered Georgia officials to return Young Thug’s seized cash, jewelry, cars, and guns after the state’s forfeiture case and appeal were dismissed. The Atlanta rapper, now on probation, must still stay away from metro Atlanta for 10 years, with limited exceptions, even as he regains his property from the long-running YSL case.

5. Decatur approves over $100K in small business grants (atlantanewsfirst.com) — Small businesses in nearby Decatur can now tap into more than $100,000 in new city grants to spruce up storefronts, expand kitchens, and boost digital marketing ahead of Atlanta’s World Cup crowds. With events like Big Boi and Indigo Girls performances and MARTA access to Mercedes‑Benz Stadium, Decatur leaders hope Atlanta-area fans will eat, drink, and shop locally before matches.
