📰 News we're reading

1. Plane Tires Blow Out During 'Hard' Landing At ATL Airport: Reports (patch.com) — Travelers arriving from Lima faced a tense end to their journey when a LATAM Airlines jet reportedly blew multiple rear landing gear tires during a hard landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Passengers described violent shaking, a rattling wheel, and a bathroom door coming off before they were bussed to the terminal. No injuries were reported, and federal officials and Atlanta airport authorities are seeking the cause.

2. Food pantries opening in 2 Atlanta schools thanks to local charities and Kroger (wsbtv.com) — Two Atlanta Public Schools, Hank Aaron Academy and South Atlanta High School, will open in-school food pantries this March thanks to local charities and a $300,000 Kroger partnership. The pantries aim to ease food insecurity for Atlanta students and their families by offering groceries directly on campus where they already are.

3. Man in US illegally was operating meth labs across metro Atlanta, feds say (11alive.com) — Federal prosecutors say a large-scale meth operation ran secret labs across metro Atlanta, including sites in Morrow and Norcross, before agents seized drugs, guns, and cash. A Mexican national has now been sentenced to 30 years in prison, while his co-defendant previously received 20 years. Officials say the case shows coordinated efforts to protect Atlanta-area communities from drug trafficking.

4. Man in wheelchair says he was left on the curb at Atlanta airport; company says they followed policy (wsbtv.com) — A frequent flyer with a disability says he was left at the curb in a wheelchair at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after staff refused to escort him to the rideshare area, citing company policy. The wheelchair provider says federal guidelines limit escorts beyond baggage claim, while airport officials insist they’re committed to ADA compliance as the traveler calls for policy changes.

5. Georgia Attorney General backs FCC plan to jam contraband cell phones in prisons (wjbf.com) — Georgia’s attorney general, speaking from Atlanta, is backing a new FCC proposal that would let states jam illegal cell phone signals inside prisons to curb crimes organized from behind bars. With tens of thousands of contraband phones seized in Georgia prisons last year, officials say the change could significantly disrupt gang activity and scams reaching Atlanta and beyond.
