📰 News we're reading

1. Sinkhole closes Atlanta road (wsbtv.com) — A sinkhole has shut down Georgia Avenue SE between Connally Street and Ami Street in south Atlanta, and drivers are being detoured around the closure. Residents and businesses will still have access, but officials urge everyone else to avoid the area. Detailed eastbound and westbound detour routes are in place while the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management completes repairs.

2. Police looking for help solving break-in caught on video (wsbtv.com) — Atlanta police are asking for your help identifying two people caught on video breaking into a home on Hemphill School Road NW just before Christmas. Investigators say the suspects threatened the resident and stole electronics, and Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for anonymous tips leading to an arrest and indictment.

3. US attack on Venezuela provokes anger and joy in metro Atlanta (wsbtv.com) — Downtown Atlanta and Gwinnett County saw protests Saturday as residents denounced the U.S. attack on Venezuela, even as some local Venezuelans celebrated Nicolás Maduro’s capture. An Atlanta-based Venezuelan community leader praised the operation as a chance to reclaim their country, while others warned the U.S. is overreaching and risking international law for control of oil.

4. Rallygoers in metro Atlanta protest US strike in Venezuela, while others celebrate Maduro's removal (atlantanewsfirst.com) — More than 100 people gathered outside Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta to protest the Trump administration’s capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, while others in nearby Alpharetta quietly celebrated. A local Venezuelan restaurant became a gathering spot for those relieved by Maduro’s removal, highlighting how metro Atlanta’s Venezuelan community is split over the U.S. military action.
