Police Shooting Injures Man In Union City

When responding officers made contact with the man, authorities say he was armed with a gun that he hid behind a door in Union City.

UNION CITY, GA — A 24-year-old man was injured in a recent police shooting at a Union City apartment in the 5700 block of Buffington Road in Atlanta, state authorities said Tuesday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when two Union City Police officers responded to reports of gunfire.

When they arrived and made contact with the man, authorities said he was armed with a gun that he hid behind the front door.

Officers commanded he drop the gun; but when he stepped from behind the door, the officers shot him, authorities said. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment, authorities said.

They added two officers had to be taken to a separate hospital so they could be evaluated for stress-related symptoms, including elevated heart rates and shortness of breath. The officers did not suffer physical injuries, authorities said.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
