Off-Duty Officer Shoots Teen During Atlantic Station Shootout, GBI Says
An off-duty police officer working security at an Atlanta shopping center shoots a teen during a melee that escalated to a shootout.
ATLANTA, GA – State investigators are looking into a police shooting that injured a teen involved in a fight at Atlantic Station.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said an argument started amongst a group of teens gathered at the shopping area Sunday around 10 p.m., near the intersection of Market and 17th Streets.
One male teen involved in the argument ran from the argument, and subsequently began to exchange gunfire with the group he fled, authorities said.

A Georgia State University working an off-duty job at the shopping center responded to the incident and shot the teen that fired at the group, injuring him, the GBI said. The teen was taken to an area hospital, and investigators recovered a handgun, authorities said.
The officer was not injured.

The GBI continues to investigate the incident and will turn its findings over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
