Police Shooting Kills GA Man Accused Of Firing At Officers: GBI

The man was first accused of threatening a gas station clerk with a gun before later being accused of shooting at metro Atlanta officers.

CONYERS, GA — A man died in a police shooting Wednesday morning at a gas station in the 1100 block of Sigman Road, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Conyers police officers responded around 7 a.m. to a disturbance call at the local gas station.

The GBI said a store clerk told 911 dispatchers that a customer, who was identified by authorities as 40-year-old Carrollton resident Jesse Roach, threatened him with a gun.

Officers found Roach inside the store, and as they worked to detain and identify him, the GBI said Roach "pushed past them" and left the store.

An officer tried to tase Roach, but he removed the taser probes, the GBI said. Afterward, the GBI said he pulled a gun from his pocket and shot at the officers.

Officers shot back, hitting and injuring Roach, the GBI said. He was taken to Piedmont Rockdale, where he was pronounced dead, the GBI said.

The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on Roach's body.

Once the GBI's investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office for review.
